Patrick McKillen with Ren Patrick & Max Subar LIVE at Kibbitznest!

McKillen returns to the kibbitznest, this time, with company!

A prolific songwriter, McKillen finds joy in every part of the creative process. As the sole producer of his three LPs (Stagefright [2011], The Red Headed Enemy [2013], Blood & Bones [2016]) and EP Love Without Me [2014], every song represents a complete cycle of the creative process. Dedicated to creating a sound that reflects the organic nature of his songwriting, McKillen brings life to songs recorded mostly in his Chicago apartment. The result is an evolving sound that couples a powerful and passionate voice with a fusion of musical genres including folk, pop, and rock.

The process of recording, mixing, producing, and even creating the artwork for his musical endeavors is a labor of love. He is always looking for new ways to bring his world to words and his soul to sounds.

McKillen continues to adapt to an ever-changing music scene and always seeks to find ways to enhance the solo singer-songwriter experience. An experienced looper, he brings the layering techniques of the studio into the live setting for a performance that resonates with a wide range of ages and audiences. McKillen's 2016 release "Blood & Bones" is his 3rd full-length album that pays homage to the traditional singer-songwriter sounds of his earlier work while incorporating some of the more modern percussive elements from his Love Without Me EP [2014]. Although the album is set to be released in June 2016, McKillen has been playing many of the tracks live for several years. This results in a well-polished set of tracks and his strongest release yet, coupling pensive and thoughtful lyrics with the musical maturity of an artist finding his voice.

Ren Patrick went on her first acting audition at the Tony Award winning Alley Theatre landing the lead role of Tiny Tim in "A Christmas Carol" and the age of 5. She was a cast member and soloist in this production for 6 years and also toured with the Alley production of Arthur Miller's "A View From A Bridge". Ren was in the Houston Grand Opera's world debut of "Resurrection". She has been featured in numerous local and national commercials for Space Center Houston, Discovery Channel Store, Methodist Hospital, Compaq Computers, Walmart, political campaign ads, etc. and has been featured in a motion picture. While she still loves acting, her true passion is singing. Ren has performed the National Anthem at major sporting events for the Houston Astros, Houston Aeros, Houston Rockets and Texas Copperheads since the age of 10 to an overwhelming response. She was the jazz vocalist for the University of Houston's Young Sounds of Houston Youth Jazz Orchestra for two years and was bestowed the honor of being named the international winner for Best Jazz Vocalist in the 2007 Downbeat Music Awards.

She enjoys writing her own music and although classically trained is creating her own sound and recording her latest material in the studio. Ren has been on several national tours with her band, Stamps, who have been featured multiple times on Perez Hilton's website and cd compilation. She has sold songs to legendary Barry Gordy, Sony and Capital Records.

Singer/songwriter Max Subar aims to remain bound to his midwestern roots with songs that radiate closeness and warmth. Growing up, his mother’s old nylon guitar became a familiar friend in the wake of moving to Australia and back as well as his parents’ divorce. Max’s grounded relationship to songwriting has helped shed light on his own experiences and struggles; from euphoric intimacy to the isolation of depression and anxiety. His debut EP reflects upon themes of love, loss, and reflection. ‘In a Dream’ is due out April 28, 2017.
