Chicago’s favorite third place

A narrow hallway with brick and wooden walls, illuminated by hanging orange pendant lights, leading to a room with large windows and visible city buildings outside.

for books, brews, and blarney.

A cozy indoor space with brick walls, large windows, a rustic wooden shelf filled with books and board games, and seating including an orange sofa and leather chairs. There is a sign hanging from the ceiling that says 'Strange Things' with an arrow pointing left, and warm lighting creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Kibbitznest Books, Brews & Blarney is a bookbar on the west side of Lincoln Park in Chicago. Since our founding in 2016, we’ve always been a little different from your typical bar or bookstore.

The drinks and the nosh are fantastic, but if you ask our regulars, you’ll learn that people really come here to be part of a special community. Alongside our nonprofit partner (Kibbitznest, inc.), Kibbitznest Books, Brews & Blarney champions the fostering of meaningful human interaction. We’re a third place, an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming place that’s separate from home or work, where social interaction and play come first.

Part of what makes this place distinct is the connection it invites. This is a place for being present together. Wifi isn’t on the menu.

Why “Kibbitznest”?

To kibbitz(from Yiddish) is to chat, banter, and linger in conversation—sometimes serious, sometimes silly, but always human.

A nest is a warm place where ideas can hatch.

Put them together, and Kibbitznest becomes exactly what it sounds like: a cozy spot for talk, thought, and togetherness.

Let’s keep in touch.
