THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED-Joshua Daniel on the Continuing Social-Political Significance of Luther

  • kibbitznest 2212 North Clybourn Avenue Chicago, IL, 60614 United States (map)

Kibbitznest Discussion Series is in collaboration with The University of Chicago Graham School to host presentations and discussions of original research. Martin Luther -The 500th Anniversary of the Reformation

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANSES. WE HOPE TO RESCHEDULE SOON

In light of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, this discussion will explore Martin Luther's contribution to the topic of religion and politics. Luther's insistence on the necessity of faith for salvation, rather than works (no matter how virtuous or socially beneficial), led him to promote Christian participation in public and political life as a form of responsible citizenship rather than cultural conversion. These lines of thought remain influential to this day in our discussions of the role religion ought to play in our entangled private and public lives.

Josh Daniel is a University of Chicago Divinity School graduate with a PhD in Theology. He has since taken his knowledge to various Chicago-area colleges and universities to teach religious studies and philosophy courses. The focus on his scholarly work is on moral formation, deformation and transformation.

Ticket includes one drink ticket and other refreshments and will support kibbitznest programs, dedicated to promoting a better understanding of the world and its people by coming together face-to face to think, to teach, to learn, to talk, to listen, to read, to argue, to discuss, to inquire, to look at, and to be human.

kibbitznest is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization and wifi-free zone dedicated to the preservation of quality face-to-face human communication.
